Government Photo ID Cards
A photo identification card is available to an Alberta Resident over the age of 12 who does not or cannot hold a valid Alberta operator's license. The card is clearly marked for identification purposes only and does not permit the cardholder to operate a motor vehicle.
Application Requirements
To obtain an identification card, you must provide acceptable identification to prove your identity.
- Applicants under 18: A parent or legal guardian with their own identification must be present.
 - Applicants over 18: You must also show proof of Alberta residency. This can include a rental agreement, utility bill, pay stub, or mailed bank statement.

The only exemption to the Alberta residency requirement is for students from another province or territory who are attending an accredited Alberta institution full-time. These individuals must present a letter from the institution verifying their full-time student status.
